In the heat of the current political diatribe, the descriptive metaphors laid on individuals may describe how they have acted, but not what they are. President Trump is a perfect example. His opponents fault his every move. His supporters often hail him as the ‘second coming’.
Setting aside personal bias, Trump is much more than those tags. Apart from his attributes and foibles, he is a ‘force’. So is former President Obama. Recent history has several examples: Ronald Reagan on the right and Bernie Sanders on the left, in their own way, held dear to their hearts the philosophical perspectives that could move this country in different directions. Although polar opposites, Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler were, not just men, but philosophical transitioners; each believing the status quo was not acceptable.
Those who make public policy are not only the only ones who are a force. Many Biblical figures molded our current religious beliefs while sometimes living counter to what they professed. Then the many entertainers, athletes, philosophers and artists are forces that contribute. Their goals are not to go along to get along. The one trait that sets them apart, and makes them a force, is to pass their message along.
Both President Bushes, for all their accomplishments in keeping the world and our country safe, were not forces for change. Neither is now candidate former Vice-President Joe Biden or even Hillary Clinton. They are all advocates for blending in the continuum of their predecessors. While the former Bushes were led by Reagan, Obama and Hillary Clinton clung to the coattails of George Soros and his philosophies. Soros is a force for destabilization in order to achieve parity (globalism). For the United States, it would mean a lowering of our prominent world standing. For most of the third world countries, his efforts could raise theirs.
The widening divide in this country is because most in leadership positions have lost sight of the ‘greater good’. They allow their own self-serving beliefs to cloud their agenda, even to the detriment of what reason would dictate.
This is a worldwide epidemic and has been here since man populated this planet--- the desire for more. Civility and fear of defeat have kept this somewhat in check. That is until a force comes along and takes over or is defeated.
Understanding the driving undercurrents gives credence to what is stretching this country to its political limits. The only thing holding it together is our Constitution. The framers of our Constitution had more foresight than most of those who hold public office today. Their goals of self-protection, opportunity and freedom are as important today as when they were penned over two hundred years ago. Although this line of reasoning more closely lines up with conservatism, much of the push for opportunity and freedom is part of the liberal agenda too.
President Trump aligns more closely with the Constitutional ‘originalist’ line of thinking as can be seen in his most recent appointment of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court---- not voting conservative on every issue brought before the noble body, but more closely aliened that way than liberal.
Sovereignty allows nations to exist. Threats can come from within and without. Trump, in contrast to Obama, has made sovereignty his priority by enforcing existing laws to secure our borders, bringing our military readiness back on track, and renegotiating or doing away with trade deals and protection arrangements that don’t put our country first.
Trump’s opposition from the left, the media and members of his own Party are by those who oppose the ‘force’ he is for change. They use his foibles to create roadblocks that slow the 'force' he represents as this country is being pulled away from a fee-for-service economy and into one of shared benefits.
Neither is all good or all bad! However, Trump is more in line with what our forefathers had in mind.
