“Rob Tenery has once again shown us as physicians that our patients are ‘equally as
concerned about how much we care as they are about how much we know,’ and how
this has not dramatically changed over the past one hundred years.”
- Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH
Founder of the Cooper Aerobics Center, Dallas, Texas
“This book provides insight into a family tradition in medical service during the last century with three generations of physicians. The many narratives the author describes show that the life of the physician differs from other professions and that the dedication to patients has priority over the demands or needs of his own family. But the ultimate rewards of his experiences go beyond economic measures and provide satisfaction not received in any other profession.”
- Denton A. Cooley, MD

Rob Tenery, MD is the third of three generations of physicians whose careers span the last one hundred years. Rob, an ophthalmologist, began his writing career when he authored commentaries about current events that were impacting health care. His expertise representing medical organizations on a local, state, and national level led him to become a monthly contributor to the nationally distributed American Medical News from 1990-1998. From there, he decided to pen Dr. Mayo’s Boy: A Century of American Medicine, a more comprehensive look at the evolution of his profession. Rob and his wife, Janet, have two children and four grandchildren. When he is not caring for his patients in Dallas or lecturing at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, their family enjoys relaxing in Santa Fe, New Mexico. |
